This year we will see great things happening at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School. Our very first senior class will be celebrating their Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation this coming June. We are also excited by the WASC/WCEA Initial Visit scheduled for this Spring of 2009.
We have grown from eleven students to twenty-three students in the first semester, and are expecting a significant increase in enrollment for next school year 2009 – 2010.
End of First Semester
End of the first semester was marked by semester exams in core subject areas from January 26 to 29, 2009. Report cards will be mailed to parents by February 9, 2009, and can also be accessible at our website at www.staguam.com under Parent’s web.
Catholic Schools Week (CSW)
Catholic Schools Week was celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas with an exciting game of softball, Faculty vs Student, held at the Leo Palace Resort on January 28, 2009. It was the second faculty vs. student game and was a good opportunity for students and faculty to interact in an informal setting and to put our Expected Student Learning Results (ESLR) into practice. Unfortunately a student was injured but first aid was administered immediately and effectively by Mr. Pepe Laflamme, our Physical Education instructor. As protocol an accident report form was filled out and filed at the Nurse’s Station.
On January 30, 2009 the faculty and staff participated in the Catholic Schools Conference held at the Hyatt Hotel. A workshop on the History of Christianity, and the Dogma of Mary Mother of God was moderated by Dr. Valera at the school’s MRC (Multi-Media Resource Center) on February 2, 2009. Concluding CSW was the celebration of the feast in honor of St. Thomas Aquinas on February 6, 2009 at San Juan Bautista Church. Mass was presided by His Excellency, Anthony Sablan Apuron, Metropolitan Archbishop of Agana; the homily was delivered by Father Ray, a Dominican priest visiting from the Philippines. Guests, parents, faculty, staff, and students enjoyed refreshments and conversations in the prayer garden.
St. Thomas Aquinas Fitness Room is now available for students, staff and faculty. Gratias tibi ago (Thank you) to the Civille family and Mr. Pepe LaFlamme for their generous contribution in providing most of the equipment for the Fitness Room.
Talent Night is scheduled for February 13, 2009, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Prayer Garden. This event is open to students, staff, parents and friends. Please come and enjoy and share in the talents of our school community.
